       Long Rope Skipping Skills

How to be a STAR Skipper with Long Rope!

Long rope can be divided into five sections:

  1. Turning

Long Rope Skipping

Important Note:

LONG ROPE  TRICKS and TIPS!

Long Rope Skills Technique

Rainbow

    A         C      E     D       B
  • Skipper A and B are the turners of the long rope (rope number 1) and will not be jumping.
  • Skipper C and D will stand in the middle of the long rope holding a shorter rope (rope number 2).
  • Skipper C and D will hold their rope with their outside hands, but will only attempt to jump rope number 1.
  • The single rope skipper E stands in front of rope number 2 and 1 with their own rope (number 3) behind them.
  • It is very important that skipper E is positioned in the middle of rope number 1.
  • On "Ready, Set, Go" all skippers turn with skippers C, D and E jumping as well.
  • Jumps are performed to a double bounce count.
  • Begin with Skippers A, B, C and D only.  When they have mastered the skills, add Skipper E with the single rope.

Challenges:

  •  Skipper A and B can also jump by holding the handles of rope number 1 in their outside hands.
  • Add more single rope skippers beside Skipper C and D.
  • Put another jumper in front of Skipper E.
  • Create your own rainbow with as many skippers as possible.

Triangle

  • 3 skippers stand equal distance apart from each other with long ropes of the same length.
  • They will stand close enough that the ropes touch the ground, but further enough apart that ropes won't touch each other in the centre.
  • All turners will move their hands at exactly the same time, turning their hands into the middle of the circle.
  • Ropes should move in time to a double bounce count.
  • 3 Jumpers can enter the ropes and continue jumping.

Challenges:

  • Have 3 jumpers practice level 1 single rope skills that each of them can do in each of the ropes - learn the counts first.
  • Make up a small routine.
  • Move between the ropes.

Eggbeater

  • Lay two long ropes of exactly the same length on the floor crossing one on top of the other
  • Four turners will then pick up a handle.
  • Check that ropes are touching the ground in the centre.
  • Skipper jumps in to the centre of the cross, using a double bounce count and performs skills.

Challenges:

  • Line up a number of skippers and have them do one jump and run through the ropes.
  • Each jumper performs two of their favourite level 1 skills.
